化粪池容积：化粪池的有效容积应保证粪便的贮存时间不少于标准的要求，第一池20天，第二池10天，第三池30天。总容积不得小于1.5m3。第一、二、三池的容积比例为2:1:3，在2池容积不足0.5 m3时，可按0.5 m3设计施工。

安全：化粪池盖板要预留出粪口并盖严，防止意外发生。清渣和取粪水时，不得在池边点灯、吸烟，防沼气遇火爆炸。

施工

1、选址：改厕的目的是让农民用上清洁卫生厕所，如选址不当，直接影响农民使用卫生厕所积极性，因此卫生厕所的选址要因地制宜，根据农户居室位置、庭院大小、当地生活习惯以及建厕类型等因素来确定，不能搞统一模式。

2、材料准备：在施工之前，施工人员按施工需要，备足砖、水泥（425#）、砂石、钢筋、蹲便器、进粪管、连通管等材料，方可施工。

3、放样和挖坑：根据用户需要和具体情况，选好化粪池的位置、确定形状和池子的大小，量好尺寸撒上石灰线。放线时应留出砖砌或现浇余地，一般每条边放15cm。放线完了以后，掏出坑内的泥土。土坑的深度应大于130cm。
